ROBINHO – I REJECTED BARCELONA FOR REAL MADRID

Former Real Madrid forward Robinho has revealed that he had the chance to move to the Nou Camp but he rejected the move to play at the Santiago Bernebau.

The player claimed it was a tough decision for him to reject Barcelona then as he preferred Los Merengues over Los Blancos clearly.

“It may seem like a difficult choice, but it wasn’t. Real Madrid was the team that showed more interest in me. Both of them are great clubs that have fans all around the word, but when Madrid came in for me, I saw they had a large Brazilian group in their squad and the coaching staff was also from Brazil. When you put all this together, why would I move to Barcelona,” Robinho said.

Robinho went on to be a remarkable force at the Spanish club though he never matched the levels of his compatriot Ronaldinho at Barcelona. Continue reading “ROBINHO – I REJECTED BARCELONA FOR REAL MADRID”

ROBINHO – I WOULD HAVE JOINED CHELSEA

Former Manchester City forward Robinho has revealed that he would joined Premier League giants Chelsea FC if not that the Blues were already selling shirts with his name before the deal with his then club Real Madrid was announced.

The Brazilian was set to move to Stamford Bridge before Man City, backed by Arab money, swooped in to sign the player for a record £32.5 million.

Then Chelsea manager Luis Felipe Scolari, also called Big Phil, was fuming at the actions of the Spanish side as they sold the player to the then new kids on the block.

“My goal was to move to Chelsea – Big Phil said I could make the difference for him as his squad, according to him, was not creative enough. But Real Madrid has fallen out with Chelsea – they didn’t like them selling shirts with my name on before the deal had been done.

“I’m pretty sure that this error was one of the main reasons why the transfer failed, as it was a matter of pride for Real Madrid,” Robinho revealed. Continue reading “ROBINHO – I WOULD HAVE JOINED CHELSEA”

SAVAGE BLASTS AGBONLAHOR FOR HIS POOR FITNESS LEVEL

Mirror Football pundit Robbie Savage has condemned Aston Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahor for his poor fitness level as a professional football player.

The pundit also made comments at Saido Berahino’s fitness level. Savage, a former Birmingham City player, said that players in that professional level should be ashamed of themselves if they cannot maintain a level of fitness.

“If I was a manager who had to send one of his players to a fitness boot-camp in the middle of the season, I would find it very hard to accept,” the ex-footballer wrote. He challenged both stars to work on their fitness levels as he opines that professional footballers should always maintain high standards of fitness, as it was not an option. He equalled the high fitness levels to a bus driver having a driving license.

Savage likened the duo to careless players who “simply didn’t care enough about their physical condition.” He linked their fitness levels to their attitude.

West Brom FC had to ask Berahino to do a four-day crash fitness programme in France in a bid to boost his fitness level. The former English under-21 player posted a supposedly sarcastic picture of himself online. The talented player could have moved to Tottenham Hotspur for c. £25 million but West Brom did not allow the deal.

Villa legend Agbonlahor had to undergo a personal fitness regime mid-season, and Savage dismissed the player’s excuses saying they had access to facilities, advice, and all sorts. Savage said the players were well-paid to perform their jobs and fitness was a key requirement. Coach Steve Bruce admitted this recently when he said Agbonlahor is the best centre forward, despite his age, but only when 100 percent fit. He revealed that the player was making progress and he was willing to play him if he does what is required.

HOW TOP FOREIGN PLAYERS HAVE INFLUENCED THE EPL

There have been numerous debates on if the number of foreign players in the English Premier League is not too high.

Some even say the Premier League is competitive due to the influx of these foreigners, but add that it has affected the Three Lions on the international front as they struggle to replicate its successes.

Soccer betting odds tend to favour clubs that have a high number of established foreign football stars. Many of these foreign players have made indelible marks on the Premier League. Considering a few, Arsenal’s Dennis Bergkamp joined from Inter Milan in 1995. Since the arrival of Arsene Wenger, plenty world-class stars have passed through the club’s gates.

The 2003/04 set dubbed “The Invincibles” played the entire season without losing a single game. Really talented foreign players lit up the Premier League; Patrick Vieira, Gilberto Silva, Robert Pires, Reyes, Freddie Ljungberg, and one of the best thing that ever happened to the Premier League, Thierry Henry. Currently, Arsenal are still attracting the best players. At least, there is Mezut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Petr Cech and others. Continue reading “HOW TOP FOREIGN PLAYERS HAVE INFLUENCED THE EPL”
